Is Pea milk high in protein?

In short, yes! Our vegan plant drink at The Good Pea Co. contains a whopping 8g of protein per serving, and we are proud of the pea revelation taking place in the plant-based milk industry. Pea milk is becoming a firm favourite as a non-dairy milk alternative compared to alternative milk such as rice, nut, hemp, etc.

Our pea milk is a beautiful blend of yellow split peas and coconut cream, creating a creamy, delicious and nutritious drink. It has 50% more calcium than cow’s milk per serving and is low in saturated fat. It has an excellent source of protein, carbohydrates, fibre; with many more vitamin and minerals. We have fortified it to give that extra nourishment required by our bodies with Calcium, VitB12, VitD and Iodine.

It’s hypoallergenic, which makes it a great choice for all types of people. Its GMO-free, gluten-free and lactose-free. So less common problems occur such as diarrhoea, bloating and excessive gas commonly associated with dairy-type products. There is an increase in evidence that states pea milk is very rich in branched-chain amino acids that are great for regulating your blood sugar levels and promote muscle growth.

So how does Pea milk compare to alternative milks out there?

  1. Almond Milk:
Pea milk has about 8 times more protein than almond milk. Almond milk also takes up a lot of water resources to grow a single almond and has a considerably high water footprint and is a major contributor to global warming. This makes it a very unsustainable beverage to consume.
  2. Soy Milk:
Although being one of the very first alternative plant milk in the plant-based industry and having good protein content, soy has been contributed to be very high in GMO and requires lots of fertilisers to grow.
  3. Oat Milk:
Whilst oat milk is hugely popular for its tastes and textures, the protein content per serving is usually half that of pea milk and they can be high in sugars.
  4. Dairy Milk:
Dairy farming has been known to cause very high amounts of methane gas in the environment and thus leaving a massive carbon footprint behind and a major contributor to global warming. Dairy farms also require tons of gallons of water to milk cows which directly has a massive impact on the environment and a huge water footprint. Pea milk has the same amount of protein, 50% more calcium, half the sugar and significantly fewer calories compared to dairy milk.

Pea Milk also has some amazing skin benefits as it contains polyphenol antioxidants that can help to reduce free radicals throughout the body and reduce oxidative stress which indirectly promotes anti-ageing, fine lines and wrinkles which is crucial to younger-looking skin.

It keeps your satiety levels high, keeping you fuller for longer!

For the planet and its people! Along with its high protein and vitamin content, it is one of the most sustainable plant milks available today. Peas share the unique ability to extract nitrogen from the atmosphere eliminating the need for fertilization, which is a prime contributor to greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture. To top it up, peas require very little water to grow and are highly adaptable as they can even grow in colder climates making them more favourable worldwide. Peas also restore the health of the soil making it more favourable to other crops grown afterwards.
