The Pea Revelation
Not green peas, no, no, we use the ferocious Yellow Split Pea and mouth-watering Coconut Cream, as this unique blend is not only super nutritious but also sustainable. Yellow Split Peas are also nutritionally dense; they are naturally high in protein and fibre and are low in calories (bonussss!). Did you know? Field Peas are the only crop that provide an abundant, inexpensive and sustainable source of Nitrogen. Click below to find out how.

Carbon Footprint
Ok onto some serious stuff. In case you haven’t noticed, at The Good Pea Co., we take Climate change very seriously. We know that a combined climate-carbon crisis is estimated to claim 100 million lives between now and the end of the next decade. In the UK in 2009, 10% of energy demand came from industry and globally in 2008, 52% of energy demand came from industry, including the Food and Beverage sector. Peas fix nitrogen by taking it from the air and convert it to a usable fertiliser. With the reduction in applied nitrogen, fertiliser run-off can be reduced keeping our waterways, lakes and oceans cleaner. I mean, can someone create a superhero cape for the ferocious Yellow Pea?
Water
Some more serious stuff. Did you know that at least two-thirds of the global population, over 4 billion people, live with severe water scarcity for at least one month every year and the costs of recycling polluted water are on the rise. That’s why we chose to use yellow split peas as a key ingredient; they grow in areas where there is an abundance in rainfall, so they require little to no irrigation. It takes 1.1 gallon of water to grow 1 almond, that’s 100 times as much water per ton of crop as dry peas. Dairy milk requires 25 times more water per litre than The Good Pea Co. – say whatttt!
Recycling
With sustainability being a priority for us here at The Good pea Co., we know that over half of UK waste is disposed of in land fill. In terms of household waste alone, each person in Europe is currently producing, on average, half a tonne of such waste. Biodegradable waste in landfill produces methane, a greenhouse gas 20 times more potent than carbon dioxide. Of the 600 million tonnes of material used each year in the UK economy, only 115 million tonnes are recycled. So we promise to always use recyclable material and to encourage all households to do the right thing by our planet and for our future generations by recycling. We are contributing to a reduction in wastage by ensuring our products have a 12-month shelf-life. Make sure you recycle, people!
